We have two more sessions at Purple Dragon Games before the store closes and we move to the Community Center at Uno Park in North Adams on Wednesday September 6.

This week Niko is discounting all games remaining in inventory by 30%. There are still some interesting titles available, including copies of my personal favorite – Cosmic Encounter.

Our August 23 session will feature both 2-player and Train themed games.

Jaipur

2x (led by K-ban) 2009 classic card game of trading, drafting and buying goods at the market. The camel mechanic makes the game go. Win 2 of 3 rounds to triumph over your opponent. Should be in everyone’s 2-player game collection.

Hanamikoji

 (led by Tim) 2013 area majority influence tile and action selection game where players compete to earn the favor of seven Geishas by collecting each one’s preferred performance item. It effectively utilizes the ‘I cut, you choose’ mechanic in a tightly fought contest.

 

Patchwork

(led by Sean) 2014 Uwe Rosenberg pentomino tetris-like game with interesting twists. This game led to a trilogy of similar games by the author that were multiplayer (Indian Summer, Cottage Garden and Spring Meadow) . The Halloween themed version was played.

Glasgow

(led by Sean) 2020 city building game that uses a rondel mechanic along with tile drafting. Players travel the city to collect resources, take special actions, and most importantly construct buildings

Cahoots

(led by Sandy) 2018 co-op where players add colored/numbered cards to 4 piles, trying to clear a set number of goal cards. This time the game won.

Blazon

(led by Tony) 2023 crowd-funded game of drafting and set collection set in the world of heraldry (decoration/identification of battle shields)

Dominion

(led by Nicole) 2008 Spiel des Jahres winning deck builder, played on K-ban’s tricked out custom-made disc set (as a bag builder)

Rajas of the Ganges

(led by Armando) 2017 worker placement game with a unique victory condition. Players are placing meeples on spaces for markets, boat movement, landscape tiles and additional dice – all to earn both fame points and money. Fame tracks clockwise on the board’s perimeter while money does likewise but counter-clockwise. First to have their two markers meet wins.

Dorf Romantik

(led by Tony) 2023 SdJ winner. Co-op where players place landscape tiles to earn points for the team. 126 (short of record 157 a few months ago)

Globetrotting

(led by Sean) 2023 game of planning the perfect vacations, with players drawing routes (using wet-erase markers) on a 3D plastic globe. VPs are earned for flying at lowest total cost, completion of personal bucket list tasks as well as for completing public objectives. Plays in well under an hour. Has similarities to ‘On Tour’ but is much more forgiving. This time the expansion was used so 5 (or 6) could play together

Karuba

(led by Tony) 2015 Rudiger Dorn family game.Puzzle tile game of exploration, with players receiving VPs for getting each of their explorers to their like-colored temple before opponents do likewise. Pick up gold and gems along the way for additional points. Rule clarification, tiles placed do NOT have to touch a previously placed tile.
