5/11/2022 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #22-19

Reminder that next week, May 18, is Pirate Game Night
Expect a curated experience from our table leaders from among Dead Reckoning, Skulls, Port Royal, Black Fleet, Flying Dutchman, Winds of Plunder, Korsar, Loot of Lima, Dread Curse, Tiny Epic Pirates……ARGHHH! (too many games and not enough time, as usual)

ON OUR TABLES:
Mass Transit (led by Emmet) co-op card game (this time with 3 players) with all attempting to return commuters from the inner city to their suburban homes via train, ferry and bus. Our intrepid urban planners WON
Lost Cities (led by Tim) 1999 Knizia 2-player card game of scoring net points for expeditions (cards played in ascending order). The current version has a two sided board with option to add a 6th expedition. Older versions can be upgraded through an expansion available at the BGG store.
Jaipur (led by Danny) 2009 2-player fast-paced card game, a blend of tactics, risk and luck. On your turn, you can either take or sell cards. If you take cards, you have to choose between taking all the camels, taking one card from the market, or swapping 2-5 cards between the market and your cards.
Jeckyl vs Hyde (led by Amy)  2-player asymmetric 2021 3-suit trick taking game that rewards extreme trick taking difference for Mr.Hyde and balanced scoring for Dr Jeckyl
Rosenkoenig/ The Rose King (led by Drew) 1992 Dirk Henn (Alhambra, Metro, Show Manager) 2-player abstract area control card and double sided tokens,with players trying to capture area based on cards played – all in a tactical 30-minute contest..
Paleo (led by Tim) 2020 Kennerspiel (gamer’s game) winner. Cooperative effort to coordinate the efforts of your caveperson tribe to grow, discover new technology and defeat a cruel world. 
The 4-person tribe WON.
Kokopelli (led by K-ban) 2021 Stefan Feld card game of completing ceremonies through clever card play. Each of 10 ceremonies provides a special ability only when it is incomplete (4 ceremony cards earn VPs) as once closed the power is lost. Unique aspect is the ability to play ceremony cards both to your own village as well as to the 2 closest areas in both your neighbor’s villages. A different combination of 10 ceremonies (out of 16 for the base game, 25 with expansion) can be used each game….we started with the suggested 10 base ceremonies
Small World (led by Drew)  multi-award winning 2009 that re-themed Vinci into a fantasy world inhabited by a ….cast of characters such as dwarves, wizards, amazons, giants, orcs, and even humans, who use their troops to occupy territory and conquer adjacent lands in order to push the other races off the face of the earth.

Picking the right combination from the 14 different fantasy races and 20 unique special powers, players rush to expand their empires – often at the expense of weaker neighbors. 

On each turn, you either use the multiple tiles of your chosen race (type of creatures) to occupy adjacent territories – possibly defeating weaker enemy races along the way, or you give up on your race letting it go “into decline”. 

Tranquility (led by K-ban) 2021 co-op card game that shines with 2-3 players. Players must fill the sea with islands — specifically island cards with numbers on them — and guide the ship home before any player runs out of cards. Note that in the world of Tranquility, the only way to play is in silence.

      The goal of the game is for the team to complete the grid before any player runs out of available actions. Cards must be placed so that the grid ascends in numerical order from bottom left to top right. All the players win if they manage to complete the grid and have placed a Start and Finish card. All players lose if a single player can no longer play or discard any cards legally. NO TALKING.    We WON !

Why First? (led by Drew) 2015 chaotic racing game with the goal to finish in second place throughout 5 races..
Welcome to….your perfect home (led by K-ban) 2018 flip & write. Puzzle game with point salad scoring for fulfilling contracts, building pools,and parks, and estates – no limit to the number of players.
