12/4/2024 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #24-49

13 gamers (despite the snowstorm and a handful of last minute sensible cancellations) at the UNO Community Center for a request night ….and it was also National Dice Day – so our table leaders naturally veered off in that direction.
Our December 11th session is our annual Holiday Party – an opportunity to celebrate the vibrant gaming community that has formed in the Berkshires.
6:30 – 9 PM – Activity and party games (including Crokinole, Just One, Hitster, Bamboleo, Wavelength, Tiny Laser Heist, Paku Paku, Indoor Corn Hole, Bamboleo ….and more)
From 9 PM on we will honor our table leaders and draw random lots for our popular prize table. If all goes according to Hoyle, all will go home with at least 4 games from the prize table.
Paid members – If you can’t make it but want to both contribute to the table and arrange a proxy to make your selections, please inform Steve and/or Sean.
A reminder that your Berkshire Gamers paid membership entitles you to a 10% discount on games at Where’d You Get That – at the foot of Spring Street in Williamstown.

IN: Steve & Sandy, Sean & Wendy, Tony & Rachel, Armando, Amy, Zach, Chris, Danny, Rob, Julie
ON OUR TABLES:
Tranquility: The Ascent (led by Armando) 2024 cooperative sequel to Tranquility with players working together to complete a grid of numbers as they scale the mountain. Our intrepid quintet won.
HITSTER (led by K-ban) 2022 music party game where players/teams try to arrange cards with hit songs in chronological order – first to a completed timeline of 10 wins. The cards have QR codes on their backs – scanned by smartphone cameras that link from the HITSTER app to Spotify to play either a snippet of the song (free version) or the entire song (premium Spotify). This was a dry run for one of the party games for our Holiday Party.
Deadly Dowagers (led by Zach) 2023 closed drafting card game of marriage, murder and money, where players are ladies competing with the other lovely ladies in their town by strategically growing their dowries, while being careful not to gain too much infamy, or the duke may pass them over for another bride!
Can’t Stop (led by Sean) 1980 Sid Sackson push your luck classic dice game where players roll four d6 and pair them off to advance their pawns, claiming columns on a stop-sign shaped board.
Sushi Roll (led by Tony) 2019 dice version of the Sushi Go card game where players roll and draft sushi dice and pass the rest via pseudo-conveyor belts to their opponents. Earn points for combos and the usual end of game pudding rewards and penalties. Add the bakelite Geek-up bits to add a tactile experience.
Heat: Pedal to the Metal (led by Sean) 2022 car racing game that uses deck building and push-your-luck in a unique combination to simulate the stress of a Grand Prix race. Our quintet raced on the UK course. Once all are re-familiarized with this very hot game we would like to add the advanced features for customizing one’s racecar and exploring the other tracks.
UnderGrove (led by Armando) 2024 action retrieval and majority/influence game, where players are a towering evergreen with an ancient symbiotic connection to the fungi in their forest. As new mushrooms appear, player’s options expand for converting nutrients and helping their seedlings. Using cube conversion, tile placement, area control, and a tiny bit of engine building, players need to claim the most advantageous locations and optimize their actions to leave the best legacy in the forest. Co-authored by Elizabeth Hargrave (Wingspan, The Fox Experiment).
Cubitos (led by Tony) 2021 release from John D Clair ( Mystic Vale, Space Base, Ecos). Strange combination of push your luck, special dice with abilities….all in a race. The game starts out slowly but increases tempo much like Dominion but with dice combos rather than cards.
