01/24/2024 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #24-04

18 at the UNO Park Community Center for Expansion/Sequel Night

Welcome to Russ and Swan on their first visit
Russ was the organizer of the Sunday Berkshire Tabletop Gamers group that met in a North Adam home back from 2012-2018 and we are excited that he is resuming organized gaming.
Before our session began, we were visited by Gabby from the North Berkshire Community Coalition (NBCC), who rents the Community Center. She invited gamers from all 3 game groups (ours, Friday evening MtG and Sunday afternoon D&D) to join the community in a free Pizza party on Friday February 9 from 4:30 to 6 PM. This is an opportunity for us all to network and attract new members.
Our January 31 session will feature POLYOMINO games – games with shapes from among: Isle of Cats, Blokus (plus Duo and Trigon), Barenpark, Junk Drawer, Project L, Patchwork, NMBR9, Planet Unknown, Paris: City of Lights, NY Zoo, Silver & Gold, Cartographers, Dollars to Donuts, Shake that City, Grand Carnival, Tenpenny Parks and more.
Our table leaders are busy preparing a curated experience for your gaming enjoyment.
Sean, Armando & I will be traveling to Long Island on Friday to game with the LI-Gamers at the home of Lynn Levy. The session is now full with 14 gamers with a waiting list forming for LI Gamers.

ON OUR TABLES:
Expansions

Tiny Towns with Villagers expansion

(led by Nicole) 2020 adds lodge boards, villager meeples, more building cards, more Monument cards and Villager cards

Quacks of Quedlinburg with Herb Witches Expansion

(led by Tony) 2019, adds fifth player, new recipes, Locoweed (new ingredient) and the Witches with special 1-time use abilities.

Fantastic Factories with Manufactions expansion

(led by Reimi) 2021 adds new blueprints, contractors, vitamin resources, and corporate factions that grant players unique powers.

Villagers with Shifting Seasons expansion

(led by Sean) 2022 adds enough new cards and official rules for games to last an extra round on average, allowing players to build even bigger and better villages. Event cards offer new actions and scoring opportunities for all players. Powerful new Special villagers like the Engineer, Inventor, and Merchant offer rule-bending abilities.

Take It Easy with Sun-rays & Moonbeams Variant

(led by Sandy) multilingual 2016 edition (as well as the numbered Daffodil Edition) add sun-rays and moonbeams to the tiles for additional scoring…. or to make your brain implode

Sequels

Ticket to Ride: Marklin Edition

(led by Drew) 2006 stand-alone on a map of Germany and each individual card in the deck depicts a different Märklin Trains model. A new mechanic is also introduced in the form of passengers and merchandise tokens. A series of merchandise values worth victory points are placed on nominated cities during the game’s set-up. The values of these tokens diminish when multiple tokens are present within a single city, requiring players to move quickly to capture the higher valued tokens.

Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers

(led by Chris W) 2002 stand-alone set in the stone age. Instead of cities, roads, and farms, it has forests, rivers, lakes, and meadows. Players’ meeples can represent hunters (when placed in the meadows), gatherers (in a forest), or fishermen (on a river segment). They also have huts, which can be placed on rivers or lakes to get fish from the entire river system.

Azul: Summer Pavilion

(led by Ethan) 2019 stand-alone (and my favorite of the Azul family) where tiles are drafted, pavilions in 6 colors plus a central multi-colored one are constructed, with scoring bonuses earned for completing each color and a few other categories. One building type is wild in each of the 6 turns.
