Our June 28 session has dual purposes – celebrating our 2nd anniversary at Purple Dragon Games and games that have a rating of 8.0 or greater as voted by users on the BoardGameGeek site.

Expect a plethora of activity games (multiple Crokinole sets, Loopin’ Louie and more silliness)  to start the evening, followed by the 8’s

Codenames

Sushi Go Party

(led by Tim) 2016 8-player version of 2015 Phil Walker-Harding with more Sushi choices for greater variety in this classic pick, pass and play family game.

Ave Caesar

 (led by K-ban) 1989 original Ravensberger classic card-based chariot racing game. Much devious blocking at choke points and hand management. Hail Caesar !

Medici

(led by K-ban) 1995 Reiner Knizia classic perceived value auction game played on the original German Amigo edition.(since reprinted several times since the original went OOP) Bid to your opponent’s ‘point of pain’ in a series of once around auctions…where players are securing cargo both for the products and for bulk weight. You are bidding with your VPs so some self-control is imperative.

Paperback

(led by Tim) 2014 deck-building word creation game. Players start with a deck of letter cards and wild cards. Each hand they form words, and purchase more powerful letters based on how well their word scored. Most letters have abilities that activate when they are used in a word, such as drawing more cards or double letter score. Players buy wilds to gain victory points.

Hare & Tortoise

(led by K-ban) 1973 David Parlett British racing card game that was the very first SdJ winner. Carrots are spent to move to available spaces on the board, lettuce are chewed and what looks like a children’s game is certainly not what it appears. The game has been republished numerous times….we used the 1987 Gibson’s English revised edition with the jigsaw board.

Gizmos

(led by Tim) 2018 Phil Walker-Harding engine-building drafting game. Players build their machines/inventions using a 3D marble dispenser that supplies the resources required to complete machines. We will try to schedule a Phil Walker-Harding session this summer with the two games we played tonight plus Cacao, Barenpark, Planted and Imhopep
