6/22/2022 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #22-24

10 at Purple Dragon Games on June 22.

First time for Sam and return for Edward.
Next session, June 29, is our 1 year anniversary at Purple Dragon Games. Despite the pandemic, the group has thrived – averaging 3 tables of gamers per session. I’ll post first year stats after our celebration. Thanks to all who have made this group very special, inclusive and friendly – while on a mission to explore modern game design together with a sense of wonder.
And special thanks to Niko on making Purple Dragon available to our group rent-free.
Our table leaders will be bringing a variety of opulent activity games like:
Loopin’ Louie
Tumblin’ Dice
Fireball Island
Crokinole
Klask
and some surprises.
This is the perfect opportunity to check us out if you’ve had previous interest but haven’t attended yet…..as well as returning for those who have taken a hiatus.
Bring a friend. This is the friendliest group of gamers you’re likely to meet.
IN: Steve & Sandy, Sean & Emmet, Drew, Amy, Rob & Tim O, Edward, Sam

ON OUR TABLES:
Mass Transit (led by Emmet) a 2021 cooperative game – getting 6 commuters home to the suburbs from the city using 3 forms of transportation. Players coordinate their card play
Showtime (led by Rob) This 2018 game that deals with cinema from the audience experience in the theater as players want to enjoy the offered blockbusters and score points, influenced by seating choice and an annoying array of customers – having tall men in front of them, children who are blowing bubbles in the middle of the row, or purses blocking neighboring seats. Many moviegoers also have certain preferences. They would like to sit together with their partner, be surrounded by men or women, or sit in the first row. Whoever’s visitors have had the most pleasure in the cinema after three rounds wins. This is an easily accessible, brisk family game with a funny theme that everyone knows from their everyday life.

Tranquility (led by K-ban) this 2021 co=op is becoming a group favorite among the genre’. Sean and I beat the game with a turn to spare.
Lacorsa Grand Prix (led by Sean) Sean discovered this 2018 car racing gem. We roped store shopper, Sam, into joining us for a series of 3 races. Each race takes 15-20 minutes and distills Grand Prix racing into its essential jockeying for position, overtaking and drafting. A card game that shines with 3 players with each managing a team of two cars. The components/bits are wonderful (a wooden folding race track and molded plastic cars.
Scout 2x (led by Emmet) one of the 3 finalists for this year’s Spiel des Jahres, this Japanese import packs a wallop in a tiny package as a climbing game with a couple of neat twists. It has become a group favorite in a short period of time….hopefully a reprint will soon be forthcoming.
For Sale (led by Drew) Stefan Dorra’s clever 20-30 minute 1997 filler card game that’s been reprinted several times. In the game’s first half, bid to win property on offer, then sell them to earn checks in the game’s second half. Checks plus remaining cash on hand determines the winner. A classic that should be in everyone’s collection.
Wayfinders (led by Rob) A 2019 lightweight strategy game with the theme of building small airports on islands with your planes. The essential game mechanism is a worker placement and resource collection. The aesthetics are bright and colorful. Wayfinders is a good entry game for the worker placement genre.
Traumfabrik/ Dream Factory (led by K-ban) Knizia’s 2000 auction game of producing movies by winning directors, actors, musicians and special effects. Themed to reflect famous movies, actors, directors and studios with points awarded for finished films and awards for first picture (by 3 genres), best film by year and end of game for best film by genre’. We played with the original gGerman edition with labels in English pasted on. The game has been published in English as Hollywood Blockbuster and Dream Factory.
