3/23/2022 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #22-12

It’s great to be back in the Berkshires after Sandy & I took a nearly 3-week road trip to NOLA for my niece’s wedding.
Highlights included stops in Cleveland (Rock & Roll HoF, Zoo, Westside Market, Dave Mason/Marshall Tucker Band concert), Cincinnati (Gabriel ‘Fluffy’ Inglecias comedy concert and Findlay Market), Louisville (Churchill Downs, Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat Factory and Muhammed Ali Center), Nashville (2 Grand Ole Opry variety shows, CMA HoF/Museum and tour of Ryman Auditorium) before reaching New Orleans and exploring the French Quarter and riding a streetcar. On the return trip we visited the US Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama. Played the ‘find the gas priced under $4’ game to mixed results/

An even dozen at purple Dragon Games on March 23.

Welcome to Greta and Annie for joining our group
March 30 session will have a racing theme….most likely of the 4-legged animal variety (horses, camels, dog-sled, chariots) Car racing is being saved for a future month. Our table leaders will surely be up to the task of providing a special curated racing experience for all.
IN: Steve & Sandy, Sean & Wendy, Quinn, Emmet, Tim, Emily, Danny, Sofia, Greta, Annie
ON OUR TABLES:

Paris: City of Lights (led by Tim) 2019 2-player game of drafting and placing pentominoes to be illuminated by 19th century street lights…. gaining traction
60 Second City – 2x (led by Sean) 2021 2-player co-op. Five 60-second rounds to place domino-like civ tiles onto a grid to match 5 goal cards. Entry level requires matching 12 goals over the 5 rounds. Got crushed the first time and won easily the second time.
Creature Comforts (led by Wendy) 2022 – 5 players were too much for this drafting game of preparing your animal family for the upcoming winter.
Brian Boru: High King of Ireland (led by Sean) 2021 combination of trick taking with area control/majorities.
Tranquility -3x (led by K-ban) 2020 co-op with communication discouraged. One win, two losses ( 1 by a single numbered card) Cards from 1-80 need to fit a 6×6 grid in ascending order with a clever mechanic for the cost. Three players seems to be the sweet spot (though 2 works well). A stand-alone sequel, The Ascent, is due to be released this summer.
Trendy (led by Sandy) 2000 Knizia design that’s since been re-themed several times. Quirky set collection card game of starting/following trends for fashion designers.
One Card Wonder (led by Sean) 2021 set collection with variable player powers. Quick for multiplayer fare – ideal as a closer.
