12/15/2021 Berkshire Gamers Session Report #25

Ten at Purple Dragon Games on 12/15.

We started by pairing off on 2-player games for the first hour or so…..this will be a regular part of our weekly sessions, as it allows those coming from distance or directly from work the ability to get into multiplayer games around 7 PM. This also minimizes waiting and milling around time.

ON OUR TABLES:
Onitama – (led by K-ban/Tim) 2014 2-player abstract with a unique movement system. Capture your opponent’s leader or occupy their temple space to win.
Odin’s Ravens (led by K-ban) 2002 original from the Kosmos square box 2-player line, combines racing with hand management and cunning. First to 12 points win (usually takes 3-5 races)
Agility (led by Drew) 2004 2-player rondel game of drafting and racing dogs over an obstacle course. Same author as Morels
Pagoda (led by Sean) 2014 game of hand management and construction of Pogodas for VPs
Jaipur (led by Tim) 2009 fast paced trading and hand management 2-player card game.
Kahuna (led by Quinn/Emmet) 1998 card game featuring hand management,drafting, area control and network building – from the original Kosmos 2-player series.
Texas 6/ Muggins Dominoes (led by K-ban) dominoes track back to the 16th century but Texas 5’s (aka Muggins) elevates the game as multiples of 5 pips score points, as well as opponent’s pips if you go out first.
Wurfel Bohnanza – 2x (led by Emmet, then by Sean) 2012 Uwe Rosenberg dice version of his famous bean game….use beans to fulfill contracts for VPs
QE – led by K-ban – 2019 insane auction game with no limits to amounts bid, BUT if you bid the most by game’s end you are disqualified. Subject to groupthink, but a lot of fun.
Juicy Fruits – (led by Sean) 1-4 player 2021 game of tile placement and contracts. Each player has their own island where they grow delicious fruit. To win, you must gain the most points by cleverly supplying ships and by adding the best businesses to your island.
TransAmerica – led by K-ban 2001 fast-playing train game of network building and trying to get other players to help you make connections quicker. Watch out for Emily and her Northern strategy (it failed twice). Released 3 years before Ticket to Ride for those who asked.
Poison – led by Drew – 2005 Knizia trick taking game (not found in BGG listings) with ingredients , cauldrons and poison cards. You are safe if you have the longest suit, but everything else you’ve won count -1 or -2 if Poison cards. The number 13 is truly unlucky here.
