12/6/2023 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #23-48

An even dozen at the UNO Park Community Center on 12/6/2023 for Worker Placement Night

Our 12/13 session is our first annual Holiday Party….honoring our table leaders with special games from the Herb Levy Game Collection – as well as a prize table for all. The emphasis for this session will be on lighter activity, real-time and party games – mostly led by members who don’t usually lead our tables. Wear your ugliest holiday sweater for a chance for an additional selection at the prize table.

Expect to play from among:

Activity games like Crokinole, Loopin’ Louie, Fireball Island, Villa Paletti, Bamboleo and more
Party Games like Just One, So Clover, Wavelength, Green Team wins and more
Real-time games like Rail Pass, Kitchen Rush, Kites, SONAR, Now Boarding, Galaxy Trucker, Space Alert, Escape: Curse of the Temple, Magic Maze and more
Prize table
Think of it as a holiday grab bag, but the items are all games and on open display to ogle prior to lots being drawn. All paid up members will receive one chit per membership. If a member has donated at least one game, they are entitled to make a selection drawn by lot. Proxies are allowed with Sean or Steve making selections for those who can’t attend due to prior commitments. After the first round of selections, chits for non-members will be added to the draw for round 2 selections  and beyond.  Steve will be donating 20+ games, so all who attend should walk away with at least 3 games.

ON OUR TABLES:
Openers and closers:

Sail

(led by Tim) 2023 cooperative 2-player trick taking game with limited communication.

Tokaido Duo

(led by Sean) 2022 Two player version of the original game. This time your Pilgrim, Artist and Merchant are journeying around an island in Japan by drafting dice. Beautiful striking art.

Tiger & Dragon

2x (led by Armando/Tim) 2021 beautifully produced shedding card game played with chunky tiles.

The Game

(led by Armando) 2015 multiplayer co-op with limited communication.

Worker Placement Games:

Viticulture Essential Edition

(led by Tim) 2015 revised version includes the base game of harvesting grapes and wine-making with a few of the most popular modules from the original Tuscany expansion, including Mamas & Papas, Fields (previously known as Properties), expanded and revised Visitors, and Automa cards for a solo variant, along with a few minor rule changes.

Honey Buzz

(led by Armando) 2020 game where players continually expand their hive, forage for nectar and pollen, make honey, sell different varieties at the bear market, host honey tastings, and attend to the queen and her court. Players use their bees to get one of 6 action tiles, then place their tile. Actions are activated when a hexagonal hole is created, which can be filled with nectar producing honey. Honey can be sold or used to fulfil contracts.

The Pursuit of Happiness

(led by K-ban) 2015 where players take a character from birth to old age and live the life they always wanted. Workers, represented by wooden hourglasses are TIME, as your workers take on projects, get jobs, buy items/activities and establish relationships. By game’s end whoever has the most long-term happiness points wins, but everyone has created a life…well spent? you decide. One of the most thematic worker placement games. Think of it as ‘The Game of LIfe’ as a eurogame.
