09/14/2022 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #22-36

10 gamers at Purple Dragon Games to welcome back Sean, Wendy and Emmet.

We played a handful or airplane games but this was mostly a celebration, as the group generously showed their love for the Kelly family’s contributions to our family of Berkshire Gamers by donating a large pile of games to jumpstart their new game collection (that was decimated by a July house fire)
In addition to all our core members donating games, we received a little help from our friends – John McCallion (former game review editor for Games Magazine who now lives in Ireland) released a dozen games from the collection that Drew is lovingly storing in VT. Stan Spector from LI Gamers contributed a shopping bag full of games as well.

ON OUR TABLES:
Take Off (led by Tim) 1999 single deck Adlung Spiele bidding card game, in which each player is an airline. Each turn players put up routes for auction (which lists locations for 3 of the plane types) from their hand. Players are rewarded for connectivity within their resulting network of cities.
Yukon Airways (led by Sean) 2019 game of open drafting combined with pick up and delivery using seaplanes.Travelers need to be transported to the different points of the Yukon. Embark your passengers (dice) using a draft system and use your ticket cards to take them to the different locations on the map. For each passenger, you get money and the possibility of improving your plane if the passenger finds a point of interest that satisfies their tastes at the destination (when the color of the die matches the color of one of the cubes at that destination). At the end of the game, you will earn extra money according to the different locations you have visited. Most money after the game week wins.
Tycoon (led by K-ban) 1998 Wolfgang Kramer/ Horst-Rainer Rosner collaboration published in the Netherlands and later reimplemented with ships as El Capitan. Fly your plane to 9 different cities using two types of transit tickets. Build hotel and factories, earning rewards for most hotels in a funky diminishing returns fashion as well as for factories. Equally important are rewards for having hotel presence in most cities. An old school game that still works very well with most money after 3 game years winning.
Wayfinders (led by Rob) 2019 game of flying your seaplane among 16 islands, building hangars and earning VPs for fulfilling contracts..
Downtown Farmers Market  2x (led by K-ban & Ethan) 2022 drafting puzzle game, forming a 4×4 tile grid with 8 different goals that intersect. Double-sided goal cards with players deciding which side to choose before drafting begins..
Next Station: London (led by Tim) 2022 flip & write game of drawing bus routes. The twist here is that there are 4 different colored terminals with corresponding colored pencils that rotate clockwise after 5 pink framed cards (of 10 in the deck) are flipped. Players score separately for each color and at the end to stations reached by multiple lines. Both Downtown Farmers Market and Next Station are published from Blue Orange Games in well-designed compact magnetic-latch boxes.
