2/9/2022 – Berkshire Gamers Session Report #22-06

16 at Purple Dragon Games on Feb 9 – tying our attendance record!

It was Cooperative Gamenite and it was a rousing success, with a dozen cooperative games getting played, and Niko (owner of Purple Dragon)  made his first playing appearance as one of his favorite games hit our tables.  Welcome back Mike after a 3-month absence.
A reminder that 2/16 is our second Reprise Night – get your requests in for games you might have missed the first time around or those you want to re-visit.
2/23 is an All Train Games session…..our table leaders are in preparation for another curated experience.

Okey Dokey (led by Emily) the team WON at this 2016 limited communication game involving putting on a music festival with 50 cards that have to be in ascending order…..and that’s where the Pandas come into the reset rescue.

Regicide (led by Tim) using a standard 52-card deck of cards, this 2020 game has players trying to defeat 12 enemy Kings – one at a time to save the Realm.

Tranquility (led by Sandy) this 2020 card game has 2-4 players trying to place 36 (of 80)  cards into ascending order in a 6×6 grid before the deck runs out. The twist is that cards must be discarded/paid for the difference in rank played by neighboring cards. No communication allowed. 3-handed we WON.

60 Second City (2x) (led by Sean) 2021 race against the clock to place domino-like building pieces onto a grid to fulfill goals for 5 rounds – 1 minute per round.

Spirit Island (led by Niko) – so we know how to get Niko out from behind the register/computer- get 2017’s Spirit Island to the table. Players defend their island home from colonizing Invaders. Players are different spirits of the land, each with its own unique elemental powers. 

Magic Maze (led by Ethan) 2017 silent race around a shopping mall  before sand timers run out, achieving goals and exiting the mall.
Now Boarding (led by Sean) 2018 Tim Fowers (Fugitive, Wok Star, Burgle Bros) frantic airline route game with player trying to get harried passengers to their destinations before they get disgruntled 4 times. Buy additional seats, engines and preferred routes…..but there’s a 30-second sand timer to consider. We FAILED but had a ball.
Forbidden Desert (led by Mike) 2013 Matt leacock design ( Pandemic, Forbidden Island) race around the island with resources trying to recover a buried flying machine in the desert. through cooperation.
The Crew (led by Ethan)  Complete missions that force everyone to work together by manipulating tricks.Highly addictive card game from 2019… 
Mass Transit (2x) (led by K-ban) 2021 card game where player have to get 6 commuters (meeples) from the big city to their home in the suburbs. Two of the 6 travel by bus, 2 by train and two by ferry. Clever double function card used to extend routes as well as to move commuters. WE LOST and then WON

Wok Star (led by Sean) a 2010 real-time Tim Fowers design. Players are chefs completing customer’s orders by contributing ingredients towards completing recipes….all against a 20-second timer.

The Game (led by K-ban) 2015 single deck limited communication to get rid of all cards into 4 piles – two ascending and two descending. WE LOST

Azul (led by Ethan)  2017 German Game of the Year by Michael Kiesling (Tikal, Asara, Torres)
A great gateway game that spawned two sequels.
Doodle Dice (led by Mike) 2016 dice and card game. Create a doodle with a few rolls of the Doodle Dice. There’s a different doodle pictured on each card in the deck. When you build a doodle that matches one of the cards, you take that card. Block an opponent’s turn or take one of their cards away. Collect one card of each color and you win!
