ON OUR TABLES:
Trajan (led by Zach) 2011 Stefan Feld designed drafting and set collection game that is set in ancient Rome. It is a development game in which players try to increase their influence and power in various areas of Roman life such as political influence, trading, military dominion and other important parts of Roman culture.

The central mechanism of the game uses a system similar to that in Mancala or pit-and-pebbles games. Players have six possible actions: building, trading, taking tiles from the forum, using the military, influencing the Senate, and placing Trajan tiles on their tableau.

At the start of the game, each player has two differently colored pieces in each of the six sections (bowls) of his tableau. On a turn, the player picks up all the pieces in one bowl and distributes them one-by-one in bowls in a clockwise order. Wherever the final piece is placed, the player takes the action associated with that bowlIfthe  colored pieces in that bowl match the colors shown on a Trajan tile next to the bowl (with tiles being placed at the start of the game and through later actions), then the player takes the additional action shown on that tile.

Actions allow players to acquire VPs in whatever ways are available to them.

Creature Comforts (led by Tim)  2022 auction, drafting, set collection and worker placement game – where players spend the Spring, Summer, and Fall gathering different goods from the forest and spending them to collect items that will make their home more inviting while the world outside is covered in a layer of snow. Each round players send family members out to various locations in an attempt to gain supplies. If they fall short of their goal, they’ll learn a lesson and be better prepared next time. The family that has created the most comfortable den wins the game
Positano  (led by K-ban) 2025 drafting and building placement game where players are builders in Positano, Italy, a village stacked upon a cliffside overlooking the clear blue sea. Each round players bid on three simultaneous auctions determining the size, quality and location of your new resorts on the three dimensional cliffside board.

Quality resorts will earn the most points, but only if players have a clear view of the sea!

BID – Players will simultaneously choose and reveal two bid cards at the start of each round. Players must balance how they prioritize the auctions and the tiles they hope to draft!

DRAFT – Based on their bids, players draft tiles from the bid board. Your tiles determine where on the cliffside you can build that turn, how many building blocks you add to your stockpile, and the quality of your new construction.

BUILD – Compete for seaside views as you build in three dimensions on a tiered cliffside!

SCORE – players score points for having quality buildings with a clear view out to sea, but also for collecting gelato and capitalizing on the public goal cards!

We used the cliffside crowding expansion which expands the game from 16 to 25 plots and from 4 to 6 players – as we had the full complement of 6 players.

Faraway 2x (led by Tony) 2023 runner up Light Game of the Year as voted by BGG users. Players play square cards as a row of 8 in front of them, from left to right. These cards represent the regions they will come across while exploring the lands. Characters on these cards will grant players victory points, but only score VPs if later cards fulfil the conditions they demand. At the end of the game, players walk back the same way, scoring cards in the opposite order they were played. There lies the heart of the gameplay. Throughout the game, the cards played will serve both to set new objectives, and to meet the ones previously played. On each turn, players select one region card from a hand of 3 and a clever priority system governs replenishment drafting. The first play in this 30-minute gem of a filler will likely make one’s head implode, as players wrap their brain around simultaneously thinking both forward and backwards on their journey to score VPs. The second play is generally one of those ‘aha’ moments when things click.

Big Shot (led by K-ban) 2001 Alex Randolph (Twixt, Raj/What the Heck/ Code 777) auction game in which a set of colored cubes is put up for auction each round based on a random die roll. Whoever wins the bid, places those cubes in areas on the game board. Once an area has seven cubes in it, that area is locked and no more cubes can be added. Whoever has the majority of cubes in that area owns it — except that ties for majority are disregarded, so in a spread of 3/3/1 cubes, the player with only one cube owns that area! Players have a limited amount of money with which to bid. They can take one loan each turn, but the first loan gives them only $9 more, while the second loan gives them $8 and the third $7. At the end of the game, the player must repay $10 for each loan taken, with that money coming from the value of the property they now own. At the end of the game, players tally the value of what they own (with some properties being doubled in value if the player owns that region’s doubler as well as areas within that region), then repay all loans. Whoever has the most money wins!
Cartagena (led by Chris) 2000 card game with a modular board, takes as its theme the famous 1672 pirate-led jailbreak from the fortress of Cartagena. Each player has a group of six pirates, and wants to be the first to have all six escape through the tortuous underground passage that connects the fortress to the port, where a sloop is waiting for their escape
Chimera (led by Zach) 2016 shedding 3-player card game  is a three-player card game of two against one based on Dou Dizhu (Fight the Landlord and similar to other climbing and shedding-based card games like Tichu, The Great Dalmuti, and Big Two. Each hand, one player is designated Chimera and the other two players team up as Chimera Hunters to defeat the Chimera. Players compete for points in several hands of play by playing sequential pairs, trips, straights and other card combinations, and whoever has scored the most points once the designated point score has been reached wins. It is is normally played to 400 points, although longer or shorter games can be played.
Pixies (led by K-ban) 2024 drafting, set collection and connections card game, where players move through the seasons to meet little creatures emerging from a flower or sheltering in the hollow of a tree. Choose one of the revealed cards, but be careful which ones are left to your opponents! Place that card in your playing area according to its number. Cards placed one on top of another are validated and earn players points at the end of the round, as do the largest color zone and spirals.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!
